Abstract
A constructivist based approach to the design effective Virtual Learning Environments was presented by this author at the 2007 SITE conference in San Antonio and then published in an article entitled "Toward a Model for Knowledge Development in a Virtual Environment: Strategies for Student Ownership" in the October 2007 issue of the International Journal for Social Sciences (Adams, 2007). This presentation seeks to further discuss this model and provide the preliminary results from the Online Constructivist Learning Environment Survey (OCLES-20) for a graduate program at a private online university. Findings from the OCLES (20) will be presented with 6 areas of investigation: (1) Relevancy - Learning in the world; (2) Uncertainty - Learning about the doctoral process; (3) Critical Voice - Learning to speak out; (4) Shared Control - Learning to learn; (5) Student Negotiation - Learning to communicate; and (6) Demographic data.
